Collection: Drawings

The Studies collection presents a selection of classical drawings and preparatory works by Liliya Muglia, offering insight into the foundational processes behind her paintings. Executed in mediums such as conté and red chalk on toned paper, these works reflect a disciplined approach to draftsmanship rooted in traditional academic methods.

These studies include both master-inspired works and original compositions, exploring the human figure, portraiture, and compositional development. Influences from artists such as Pierre-Paul Prud’hon and Mariano Fortuny are reflected in the careful handling of tone, light, and form, while original studies reveal a more introspective and conceptual dimension within the artist’s practice.

Many of these drawings serve as preparatory works for larger paintings, providing a direct connection between initial concept and finished composition. Others stand as independent works, valued for their immediacy, refinement, and technical precision.

Together, the collection highlights the essential role of drawing as both a technical discipline and a means of artistic exploration, bridging classical tradition with contemporary expression.

Original works are held in the artist’s private collection and are available for acquisition. Select pieces may also be available as fine art prints upon request.
