Collection: Imaginative Realism

The Imaginative Realism collection brings together a series of figurative oil paintings by Liliya Muglia that explore narrative, symbolism, and psychological depth. Rooted in classical technique yet driven by conceptual intent, these works move beyond direct observation to construct visual worlds shaped by meaning, atmosphere, and interpretation.

Drawing on traditions of academic painting and allegorical art, this collection reflects a continued exploration of the human condition through symbolic composition and controlled use of light. Influences from 19th-century painters, including James McNeill Whistler, are evident in the tonal restraint and emphasis on harmony, while each work maintains a distinctly contemporary voice.

Themes of transformation, identity, mortality, and perception recur throughout the collection. Whether through staged interiors, allegorical figures, or narrative scenes, each composition invites the viewer to engage with both the visible and the implied—where meaning is revealed gradually through structure, contrast, and atmosphere.

Works such as Requiem, Cicada, Truth and Lie, Witchery, and Final Destination exemplify this approach, balancing technical precision with imaginative interpretation. Together, they form a cohesive body of work that bridges classical discipline with modern conceptual inquiry.

The original artworks remain in the artist’s private collection and are available for acquisition. Select works are also available as limited edition fine art prints.
